The Canon

Dr. Dave's Canon of Instructional Chess Games

You see the same tired old examples in every instructional book, and all over this website. Why not put them all in a PGN file? You can play along with most of the games on this site from this page or another one. This needs a better index(left), but here they are:
  • Hover mouse over board squares to see extra controls e.g. b2 = toggle autoplay, b5 = search, a5 = repeat last search, f3 = next game, f8 = shortcuts help

Chess Quotes

[cool blue cat says:]

COOL TIP: What does Reti mean? He was one of the strongest players of his day, but surely grandmasters are superb calculators! Yes, they are, but often they do not need to calculate something from scratch, because they recognise the type of position they are in, and they know what to play in that sort of position. All the calculating has been done before by someone else, and once you are shown how it works, you can use it and apply it in your own games.
