DGT XL clocks

In the spirit of 'the best way to learn anything is to try and teach it to someone else', here goes:

DGT XL Clocks
=============

Part 1: Loading and adjusting pre-set time controls
===================================================

1.1. Turn on using the switch underneath the clock. The buttons on the top of the clock are, from left to right:
[ < / S ] back/store
[ - / d ] less/sound
( ' ) start/pause
[ + / ? ] more/moves
[ > / @ ] next/adjust

The only way to reset is the button underneath the clock: it's deliberately
difficult to do accidentally (or 'accidentally') during a game.

1.2. The display will show a two-digit number: different numbers mean a
different time control (e.g. 03 is a five-minute blitz game), and the
explanation is printed on the bottom of the clock.

1.3. If the number shown to start with is not the one you want,
i.use the [-] and [+] buttons to get to the number you want, then
ii. select using []
iii. select side to move first by pressing clock lever (it expects to be on White's left, press the lever if you want the clock on the other side)
iv. start using the central (') button (the same button pauses play)
v. Press [+/?] to see number of moves
vi. To play again, turn off and on again, then [] and (').

1.4. Most of the time controls we play are not among the pre-set ones.
You can find a time limit which is more or less what you want and
adjust it. Adjust by holding down the [] key until things flash, and
walk through the sequence.

Time period: 1
White hours
White minutes
White additional time per move
Black hours
Black minutes
Black additional time per move

then time period 2, same sequence
then time periods 3/4/5

But be warned, you will have to adjust it every time, it doesn't save
your adjustments.

1.5 You can adjust the time to award a 2-minute penalty and adjust the
move count this way.

That's all there is to it! Well, nearly all...

Part 2: Loading and saving time controls
========================================

2.1 I hope someone has got to the clock before you and told it about the
limits we play. (I have set up one clock and will work my way around
the other 11, or someone else will.) Try using 00 and seeing if it's
set to what you want.

2.2. If not, hold down the key for a while, which is also the S for
Store key. You will get a display that says L and shows 12345 in a
column. Each of the 12345 is a custom time control. Use [+] and [-] to
walk through them, and if you see one you want, then use [] to select and
(') to start, as usual. The saved custom time controls are (or should
be):

00 1 36/1h15m+15m QPF (Club championship)
00 2 40/1h40m+20m QPF (weekend league)
00 3 G/30 (Rapidplay)
00 4 30/1h+15m QPF (weekday league)
00 5 ?

2.3. If you have a clock that hasn't been programmed with our chosen time controls: then set your own time control.

i. Turn off and on again
ii. select 00 and then []
iii. walk through the time period options, setting each with [+] and [-] and moving on with []:
Time period: 1
White hours
White minutes
White additional time per move
Black hours
Black minutes
Black additional time per move

then time period 2, same sequence
then time periods 3/4/5

Save by holding down [S] and it should respond P with a list 12345, one of which will be flashing.

Walk up and down the 12345 to pick the one you want, then [] to save.
