Welcome to Exeter Chess Club
We are a relaxed, friendly chess club which welcomes players of all abilities. Visitors and new members are always welcome, so whether you're just looking to enjoy a casual game once in a while or you're ready to go toe to toe with our club champion, come along to a club night and you're sure to find a well-matched opponent. The club meets at 7:30 pm every Tuesday at Heavitree Social Club [MAP] in Exeter. (Note that it can be very quiet in the summer, so if you're reading this in July or August you might want to wait for September to be sure of finding an opponent). Membership costs just £5 + £18 for membership of the social club. Non-members are welcome to attend three club nights as a guest, but thereafter will be expected to join the club.

A thriving chess community in the heart of Devon
The club was founded in 1895 and has been one of the strongest and most successful clubs in the County. We most recently won the 2023 Devon County Rapid Quickplay Cup. We take part in competitions run by the Devon County Chess Association and the Exeter and East Devon Chess League. We also have an archive of coaching materials from our occasional training sessions.
