Index of Coaching handouts and Blog posts, by Class

To see pages for juniors, try a different view.

There is also a guide to levels, ratings and grades.

The handouts used in our coaching sessions are shown on the tables below. We have substantial pages and more chatty blogs, and they are all given a level (A-D, where A are better players and G is for everyone) and a topic (Openings, Tactics, Endgames...). The tables show the level across the top and the topic down the side.

Chess Quotes

Good positions don't win games, good moves do.
[Gerald ABRAHAMS]

I've wasted a Black.
[ABRAHAMS, after drawing a game with the Black pieces]

You can retreat pieces... but not pawns. So always think twice about pawn moves.
[Michael STEAN, in Simple Chess]

Open files can be used by both players. The chess player, not being an unselfish advocate of equal opportunity, naturally prefers a one-way system.
[Michael STEAN, in Simple Chess, on half-open files]
